Caesar is back and better than ever in the 3rd installment of the fantastic Planet of the Apes franchise. Directed by Matt Reeves, who is also slated to direct the upcoming solo Batman movie, anticipation for this movie has never been higher thanks to the success of the two movies preceding it. Many early reviews are calling it one of the best movies of the year, which could put the latest trilogy of Apes movies on many people’s lists for one of the greatest trilogies of all time.
In the latest chapter in his story, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with human soldiers led by a vicious colonel (played by Woody Harrelson). As the apes and humans suffer great losses, Caesar begins to wrestle with the darker side of himself and goes out on a journey to avenge his kind. Caesar’s journey brings him face to face with his enemy, leading to an epic battle that will determine the fate of their species and the planet.
The film stars Andy Serkis as the mighty Caesar, as well as Woody Harrelson playing Caesar’s main adversary as they are at war with the humans. The film also stars Judy Greer, Gabriel Chavarria, Chad Rook, and Steve Zahn. With this being the last really big release of the summer, thanks to an early release to the summer movie season, this movie is surely quite the cherry on top to what has been a great summer for blockbusters. Many are also hoping this could see an Oscar nomination for the motion capture performance of Caesar, something many feel he’s been worthy of since he started doing the character back in 2011.
