Critically acclaimed director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar) is set to bring us his latest project this weekend with the release of Dunkirk, telling the story of the Dunkirk Evacuation during World World II. Nolan wrote the script telling the story from three different perspectives-land, sea, and air-to contain little dialogue and create suspense solely through details, which will surely lead to a thrilling movie experience that only someone like Nolan can be known for.
The premise of the movie follows the miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain, and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France between May 27-June 04, 1940 during the Battle of France in World War II.
The film stars Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles, Fionn Whitehead, James D’Arcy, Aneurin Barnard, and Jack Lowden. Currently sitting at a fresh 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes leading up to its release, leads many to believe this will be the first real Oscar contender of the year, praising the cinematography, direction, acting, and Hans Zimmer’s musical score. Many critics have also gone on to say it is one of the greatest war movies of all time, along with Nolan’s best film to date.
In theaters July 21st.
