The 2017 summer movie season rolls on as this week is kicked off with the early Wednesday release of the widely anticipated Baby Driver. Written and directed by fan-favorite Edgar Wright, the movie is the filmmaker’s first movie coming off ending his Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy back in 2013, and also since losing the directing spot on Marvel’s Ant Man back in 2015.
The film follows Baby, a young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his own personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams, Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love, and freedom.
The film stars Ansel Elgort as the titular character Baby, with a stellar supporting cast that includes the likes of Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, Elisa Gonzalez, and Kevin Spacey. The film currently holds a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics calling it one of Wright’s best efforts and one of the best movies of the year. Wright specializes in original stories and being able to work a human story into any genre while always bringing his own spin to a movie. I have no doubts this movie will be on many top-10 lists come the end of the year.
In theaters Wednesday, June 28th!
